Social TV and "Our Take": When Old School Meets New School

Earlier this week I wrote about my love of being behind-the-scenes of a television show and briefly mentioned a new project was working. Well, I've been posting teaser photos and videos on Facebook all week and now I'm in the countdown phase of the project. Arise News' "Our Take" is the latest addition to Arise TV and we premiere on... well, everything, even the date, is a work in progress. We are sooooo EXCITED!

My small staff, small BUT mighty, have been working nonstop like maniacs this week to get this show Ready4Air.  Launching a show from the ground up is no small feat, add a social media component to the mix, and you've got one big mountain to climb.   "Our Take" will be on daily for one hour in the afternoons at 1 p.m. EST. I've been telling people it's a hybrid of "The View" and "Huff Post Live" featuring people of color.  Since we'll be covering topics from a woman’s perspective and engaging our online audience through different social media channels - it truly is social TV.

As Executive Producer of "Our Take," I implement and oversee the look, content and feel of the program. Yes, that also includes the set and watching the budget.  We are starting from scratch here; we need show content, guests, a set, graphics, show opener, and to create social media presence. It's Friday and we haven't even settled on a start date - but trust me it will all be done and Ready4Air when the cameras start to roll.

Hosted by Arise America news anchor Christina Brown, "Our Take" offers a fresh take, our take, on the day’s news and water cooler topics. We will feature issues of significance to people of color, especially those from Africa and the African diaspora.

After 25 years in traditional television and the last two years working in social media, I get to combine my two loves. I like to say "old school skillz meets new media tools."  I have an amazing team that includes a tireless and smart talent in host Christina Brown; our tech superstars, Robert and David; bookers, Marjorie and Kuae; and a super talented intern, Ms. Briana Montalvo.  Look at us below, our computers or mobile devices are never far behind.  LOL!

I love that "Our Take" will engage its online audience in every way possible, including Google Hangouts, Skype, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.  Robert got all our platforms up this week and we already have close to 400 "LIKES" on our Facebook page so we see you are already socially engaged.

We've still got only days to go and lots of work to do! The show airs in New York from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; 5 to 6 p.m. in London; and 8 to 9 p.m. in Johannesburg.  For now Arise TV is seen online in the US, but is in 62 million homes on SKY overseas. I love it, Deborah Mitchell Media Associates has gone global. LOL!  Don't forget to watch Ready4Air for more information on when you will see "Our Take" on Arise TV.

Stay Tuned.....

  2. Oh My how did I find this!! So excited for the new journey. Just got hip to Arise TV about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Clearly there is a need for a place where our particular perspectives on everyday topics can be heard. I don't think these voices need to be famous--no hateration. I have found in social media the opportunity to connect with people who share my demographics but they do not necessarily view the world similarly nor do they interpret things happening in the world in the same way as me. So I am looking at you and wishing you the best.
