Finally....Dancing With The Stars, All Stars Edition

By Debbie Mitchell
When I first heard there was going to be an all star edition of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, I was pretty excited and thought it was about time.  I had been thinking, mostly to myself,  that an all star edition would be good television and ABC should bring back all the winners from past seasons to compete for the top Mirror Ball Trophy.
So when the the cast announcement was made on Friday, I was a little disappointed with the final line-up.  Instead of bringing back all the winners to compete, ABC has put together a motley crew of contestants, a combination of popular and controversial contestants who were either eliminated, runner-ups or winners from past seasons.

Competitors coming back to dance include: past  Dancing With the Stars winners speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno, gymnast Shawn Johnson, former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, Indy car driver Helio Castroneves, soap opera actress Kelly Monaco, actress Kirstie Alley, actress Pamela Anderson, Reality star Melissa Rycroft , actor Gilles Marini, singers Drew Lachey, singer Joey Fatone and Bristol Palin, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's daughter.  Only ABC knows how and why they came up with the all stars  Dancing With the Stars  line-up, but I'm sure they are betting on big ratings.
There's one more  all star competitor who will be added to the mix and, in a show first, the public gets to vote and decide the 13th contender.  The three possible candidates are fan favorites Carson Kressley, Disney actor Kyle Massey and Disney actress Sabrina Bryan. On this morning's Good Morning America all three revealed they have all been dancing since their original competition ended as a part of thenDWTS review show in Las Vegas. Carson says he wasn't technically savvy in his first DWTS appearance and admits that he's gotten better.  Massey got to second place on his first appearance and looks forward to getting a second chance.  Fans can vote starting today. I'm happy to have Kirstie Alley and Gilles Marini back since I believed he was robbed of the title the season he competed and I want to see if Kirstie will lose more weight.  Kelly Monaco was the first Mirror Ball Trophy winner  so it's nice to see her and Emmitt Smith back- the dancing bar is much higher now which could be a challenge for them.
I was hoping they would bring back Mario Lopez,  Spice Girls Mel B., Jennifer Grey and even Rob Kardashian who I grew to like during his time on the dance floor.
Dancing With the Stars is one of my reality show guilty pleasures.  My prediction to win the all stars competition is Kirstie Alley or Gilles Marini. After this never ending Olympic sports coverage viewers will be ready for a little fun competition. I will be tuning in when the show debuts Monday night, September 24, at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific time.

What do you think of the all star cast, and who would you have chosen to compete for the all star Mirror Ball Trophy?
