A LITTLE ART FOR THE SOUL

If you are an art lover, collector or just like being around the energy of artists then take a trip to the Third Annual 2012 Harlem Fine Arts Show (www.hfas.org)  in New York City this weekend. The  three day expo is open-to-the public and runs through Friday, February 10th-Sunday, February 12th at Riverside Church of New York (490 Riverside Drive at 120th Street).

The  show features works of modern and contemporary African Diasporic art created on a variety of surfaces including paper, canvas, sculptures and photography.  The artists are as diverse as their works and the event brings together the artwork of some of the most accomplished Hispanic and African American artists creating today.

I attended along with a few artists and sponsors of the  annual Harlem Fine Arts Show (www.hfas.org)  a special VIP preview reception at the New York Times Building last Friday night.   Folks were out in full force to celebrate the event and the start of Black History Month.  This year's  HFAS sponsors include Amtrak,  Dell, Pepsi, State Farm, the United States Navy, Wells Fargo and Emmis Communications and CIROC Ultra Premium Vodka.

Miguel Centeno, Regional Director Northeast Community Relations & Urban Marketing  for Aetna expressed his support,   “Aetna is very pleased to support the Harlem Fine Arts Show.  Aetna has a long history of supporting the arts and I am pleased that we continue that tradition with the Harlem Fine Arts Show.”

Dion Clarke Founder of the Harlem Fine Arts Show and President of JWD Enterprises believes "Our overarching mission is to support the arts in a way that enriches and educates communities on a global scale, while showcasing Harlem as a cultural hub."

Over 100 artists, internationally renowned galleries and works including the photography of James Van Der Zee ,who documented Harlem life from 1915-1960, will be available this weekend. And, yes, the art exhibited is for sale. To get more information about the Harlem Fine Arts Show, please visit www.hfas.org and purchase tickets http://hfas.org//tickets
