We all know foodies cannot get enough of good food and talented chefs. And if you are a foodie teenager who wants to work in the culinary world and is asking the question how do I become a chef, the Career through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) has the answer. Serving underserved youth for over 20 years the program works with teachers and students in 165 public schools nationwide to help them pursue their culinary dreams. To date C-CAP has awarded over $34 million in scholarships to hundreds of kids and set the foundation for several successful graduate's culinary careers.

The C-CAP annual walk around tasting event this month was nothing short of amazing. Thirty eight of New York's top chefs prepared dishes to honor Chef Michael McCarty and raise money to support the C-CAP mission of providing scholarships, education and career opportunities for kids interested in working in the restaurant and food service industry.
Honorary Chair Bette Midler came out to support the fundraising benefit and her dear friend Michael McCarty. “This year, C-CAP was thrilled to honor restaurateur, art collector, entrepreneur, vintner, and chef Michael McCarty for his remarkable achievements and contributions to the culinary industry and his commitment to nurturing the next generation of chefs,” says C-CAP’s founder and chairman, Richard Grausman. “Having Bette Midler and Martin von Haselberg as honorary chairs of this event was a tribute to Michael’s outstanding career.”

When a celebrity believes in a cause or a friend it's no problem to show up and be supportive. I actually watched the Divine Ms. M. travel around the room while checking out the dishes and talking to a few folks.
James Beard Award winning Chef Chair Marcus Samuelsson of Harlem's Red Rooster restaurant was on hand along with 60 NewYork City C-CAP high school culinary students who helped the chefs out.
Samuelsson is busy these days. In between his chef duties, Samuelsson found the time to write his recently released memoir "Yes Chef."
The crowd which included WCBS-TV sports anchor Otis Livingston and TV personality and author Rene Syler must have been delighted with the dishes..........
Since the event was the most successful in C-CAP history raising over $900,000. If you would like to support C-CAP's work and to make a donation visit www.ccapinc.org.
